Dialectical Behavior Therapy at a Glance

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a well-established, evidence-based approach with proven effectiveness across diverse ages and populations. While DBT is often associated with adolescents and adults, research shows that children as young as seven can benefit from learning its core skills. These skills—mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness—equip students with practical tools to navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and build self-awareness that supports long-term growth.

At Gamut, we deliver a comprehensive, school-based DBT program. All staff are trained in DBT so they can apply its strategies seamlessly throughout the school day, helping students practice and reinforce skills in real-world moments. Beyond this integrated approach, each student participates in individual therapy and a group skills component within school, guided by our full-time DBT-trained therapist. To extend this support to families, parents take part in a monthly DBT skills group on Zoom, where they learn the same tools their children practice—creating a shared language and consistent framework between home and school.
